We are so excited to be collaborating with JUSTA and Jed & Marne on this new campaign to raise funds for our continued life-skills workshops held in the guatemalan village communities we work in. Several years ago we teamed up with our dear friend Jessi Long of JUSTA to start a series of health and nutrition workshops called Comida Vida. Comida Vida means the food of life. This is a program which provides health and nutrition workshops, led by local experts, to local communities and schools. Watch this short video describing our program!
In the last year the program has grown to include a women's sewing cooperative that offers free and subsidized sewing classes and use of sewing machines in the cooperative's community space. This is a long -time BIJA BAG dream come true. Since Bija's founder, Marne Ackermann, first began working with tailors and weavers in Guatemala it has been her mission to create more work opportunities for women. This seed has finally sprouted! These classes provide the enrichment and professional empowerment that women need to begin confidently working in a male-dominated profession.
This year we are expanding and diversifying our funding sources - and we are inviting you to be a part of our collective family! On March 10th, we are launching an Indiegogo Campaign to raise funds to expand our Comida Vida reach. This campaign will last for 60 days and culminate with Mother's Day. Please find it in your hearts to join our efforts and make a donation for these important programs. Stayed tuned for the campaign Indiegogo link. SPREAD THE WORD!
